Sr. Scientist, Cell & Molecular Biology
(Job Code: SCMB)

Aileron Therapeutics has defined a new class of drugs called Stapled Peptides, a breakthrough approach to creating drugs for highly sought after protein-protein interaction targets inside and outside the cell using its novel peptide stabilizing technology platform.

We are seeking a dedicated, motivated and independent researcher with expertise in preclinical in vitro pharmacology to lead and manage key discovery biology project teams across multiple drug discovery programs. We are looking for a few key individuals who not only bring outstanding scientific skill and insight, but who also have the ability to take high-profile project leadership roles in our expanding, drug discovery efforts.

Description and Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have a PhD with 6+ years industry experience and a successful track record in drug discovery. Sophisticated skills in preclinical in vitro pharmacology are a must. Innovative candidates with team/project leadership and strong written/verbal communication skills will succeed in our dynamic environment.

Required experience:

  • In vitro pharmacology – including cell proliferation/apoptosis and related functional/toxicity assays, reporter-based assays, and mammalian cell culture.
  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience in cell biology and translation to in vivo models of disease (e.g., oncology, inflammation, metabolic disorders) in collaboration with in vivo pharmacology experts.
  • Independent study design, data analysis and interpretation.
  • Demonstrated success leading projects and people.
  • Management of drug discovery activities in cross-company collaboration efforts with some experience communicating and maintaining relationships with internal and outside partners.

Additional desirable experience:

  • Transfection, stable cell lines generation, recombinant retrovirus and lentivirus production and transduction (biosafety level 2), and RNA interference – both siRNA and shRNA based knockdown a plus.
  • Molecular biology – including cloning, mutagenesis, PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, DNA and RNA extraction, Southern and Northern blotting.
  • Other assays – ELISA, SDS-PAGE, Western blot and biochemical assays.
  • Protein purification with different affinity and ion-exchange columns, FPLC, HPLC.
  • Expertise in confocal and fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry analysis (FACS), cell uptake/internalization.
  • Experience with models applicable to a variety of therapeutic areas, including oncology, inflammatory/immune disorders, infectious disease, and metabolic disorders.
